From Black to Brown ~ Etude House Bubble Hair Coloring

さよなら、私の黒髪！

 Goodbye, my black hair! And say hello to my brown locks! Well, I guess the new year calls for something new, right?

My last encounter with differently-colored hair was back in college, which was like, aeons ago. LOL! OK, I was being exaggerated there. My friends 'experimented' on my hair, and it was done with hydrogen peroxide with, are you ready for this? Red crepe paper. Crazy, I know hahaa! I recall it was a long process, and it looked like my scalp was bleeding with all the red color, especially when I wash my hair! I think the color turned out to be a burgundy kind of shade. I just don't remember how long it lasted. My hair must've been outrageously dry, they could've protested on me at the time. まったくもう。。。

I for one, am not really keen with lighter-colored hair. Quite frankly, I like keeping it black. As in jet black, and like in my past hair color post, blue black. I always thought that black is safe -- and if it's not colored, I wouldn't have to worry if the color suits me or that I have to endure stares from some people. Though I've been toying with the idea of a brown hair before, it is only now that I've gathered my courage and curiosity, and gave in. Just to make things different, y'know...

And so, Etude House came into the picture. I've already read a lot of good reviews about their Bubble Hair Coloring, and the only dilemma I needed to solve is whether to go for Dark Brown or Natural Brown. I eventually chose the latter because my hair is super dark and it won't really show the color, unlike bleached hair, so I need something lighter.

I purchased this kit from Etude House at SM Megamall for only Php378. So affordable, right? The box includes a 50mL pump bottle containing the oxidizer liquid, a 30mL pack of hair coloring, a 10 mL sachet of the Silky Perfumed Treatment, and a packet containing a plastic cape, a pair of gloves, and an instructional guide (which is pretty useless for me since I can't read Korean at all...).




Donned the cape and the gloves. Ready for the operation! Eheheh~ BTW, I also applied a bit of petroleum jelly on my forehead, ears, and the sides of my face just to make sure that the color will not stain my skin. And oh, this should be done on dry hair.

1. Empty the contents of the hair coloring pack onto the white pump bottle. Make sure to put the cap (with the stopper) back on tightly.
2. Do not shake the bottle vigorously! Tilting the bottle sideways a couple of times will do and when it's kinda warm, it's ready.
3. Remove the stopper, and you can now start pumping out the foam.
4. Apply the foam on your hair from roots to tips, just like shampooing it, making sure to cover all of it.
5. I gathered my hair at the top of my head and let the formula sit for 1 hour, while the box instructions said 20-30 minutes. It's up to you but not for more than an hour though.
6. After some internet browsing and a 30-minute episode of Blassreiter, time to wash my hair. It was very, very rough and thick -- but using the Silky Perfumed Treatment made my hair soft and smooth, just like magic!

It has a faint chemical smell common with hair coloring while your hair is wet (even on the next few washings), but don't worry, it will dissipate once it's dry.


できました！ And the result is...

Even though the area near the roots are a bit lighter than the rest, I absolutely like how it turned out! As for the product, I say it's a great purchase! It's affordable, easy to use, and does the job quite nicely. I had no trouble coloring my own hair by myself. The formula did not make my skin itch even though I let it sit for an hour. There's also a lot of foam in that small bottle that it took me about 30 minutes to put everything on my head. I just wish they sell the Silky Perfumed Treatment just like a regular conditioner because I really love it, eheheh~

Best part is, I love the color of my hair now! It's brown with a reddish tint, especially in direct sunlight. I like how people told me it suits me, or that I look fairer or nicer (ahem! *gets slapped*) with it. I can now say I don't regret leaving my black hair.

    Wow your new hair color looks amazing great job . If coloring your hair is that easy maybe i should try it ...but i always get scared that my hair will fall out of something like that lol.

    oh wow! love your new hair color! i used hair coloring shampoo before but they didn't worked so I dont wanna spend bucks for hair coloring again, but this is a must try! thanks for the review :D

    Yeah, it's just like shampooing your hair. I suggest you give it a try! Just make sure to condition your hair afterwards though, and it should be fine... ^__~
